The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team used a five-run 3rd inning to edge Towanda 9-6 on Wednesday, April 14.

"This afternoon showed the determination of our team by grinding out a win a day after an emotional come from behind walk off win 24 hours earlier," head coach Ron Brought said. "Rylie took the ball and provided 5 solid innings of pitching to help carry the load during a busy week with multiple back-to-back games. Once we got the bats going we played our style of softball and scored in each of the final 4 innings."

Sophomore Rylie Boyce singled to lead off the inning followed by a walk by junior Abbye Cavanaugh and a single by senior Kerrah Clymer. Boyce score on a passed ball, Cavanaugh later scored as senior Jena Boyce grounded out to first, then junior Emma Coolidge reached on an error to score Clymer. Later in the inning sophpmore Madaline Bordas doubled to score both Coolidge and sophomore Molly Ingerick, who pinch-ran for senior Chelsie English to put Wellsboro in front.

The Lady Hornets added runs in both the 4th and 5th innings by sophomore Jordyn Abernathy (4th) and Bordas (5th) to increase the lead to 7-4. Towanda added two more runs to make it a 7-6 game heading into the bottom of the 6th before Abernathy and Jena Boyce scored in the bottom half of the inning, securing the Lady Hornets' win.

Clymer, Bordas, Rylie Boyce, and Abernathy all had two hits on the afternoon while Jena Boyce and Coolidge rounded out Wellsboro's two remaining of their 10. Abernathy hit a pair of doubles.

Rylie Boyce started on the mound and pitched the first 5 innings to pick up her first career win on the mound. She allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts on 57 pitches. Clymer came on in relief for the final two innings, striking out 3.
