An early 4-run 1st inning by Sayre led them to a 12-7 win over the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team on Monday, April 26.
After the Redskins took the early lead the Hornets fought back and pulled within a run after scoring 3 runs in the top two innings. Junior Darryn Callahan and sophomore Cameron Brought scored runs in the bottom of the 1st as Callahan hit into a fielder's choice, Brought doubled, junior Isaac Keane singled to score Callahan, and senior Kaeden Mann doubled to score Brought. Callahan then drove sophomore Conner Adams in the bottom of the 3rd after Adams walked to make it a 4-3 game.
Sayre added a run in the 4th and then 3 more in the 5th to increase their lead to 8-3 then scored 4 more in the top of the 6th. The Hornets were unable to dig themselves out of that hole, but managed to score a run in the bottom of the 5th on a sac fly by junior Dylan Abernathy to score Mann, and then added runs by Keane (Mann RBI double), Mann (on error), and sophomore Blake Hamblin (Caden Smith RBI single).
Mann led the Hornets at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles. Smith was 2-for-2, Adams was 2-for-3, Hamblin and Keane were 2-for-4, and Brought was 2-for-5. Callahan, senior Brock Hamblin, and Abernathy rounded out Wellsboro's remaining 16 hits.
