The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw after two overtimes against Athens on Wednesday, September 16.
Emma Roe scored with 8:23 remaining in the first half to put the Lady Wildcats up 1-0 but the Lady Hornets quickly struck back to tie the game up in the second. Senior Cara Tennis scored unassisted on a left-footed goal with 35:58 left to play to knot the game up at 1-all. Both teams were held scoreless the rest of regulation and for two overtime periods.
"The girls played super hard and show their quality," head coach Jorge Taboada said afterwards. "They never gave up. Even when they went down 1-0 they just played harder. They maintained their intensity for the entire game, including the two overtimes."
Athens out shot Wellsboro 12-10 and had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Lilly Abadi recorded 9 saves in goal.
Wellsboro (1-0-1, 1-0-1 NTL) travels to Wyalusing on Saturday, September 19.
