Big 2nd half leads Wellsboro past Cowanesque Valley

A 40-point 2nd half led the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team to a 69-40 win on the road at Cowanesque Valley on Monday, January 13.

"It was a good team win," said head coach Steve Adams after the game. "The boys turned it up on both ends of the floor in the second half to secure the victory."

The Hornets edged CV 18-15 to open up the game and 11-8 in the 2nd quarter to lead 29-23 at halftime, but exploded for 40 points (19 in the 3rd and 21 in the 4th) while holding the Indians to just 17 points the entire 2nd half.

Two Hornets scored in double figures on the evening, led by junior Joseph Grab with 19 and sophomore Darryn Callahan with 13. Freshman Conner Adams and sophomore Liam Manning added 9 points each, senior Ty Morral scored 8 points off the bench, senior Carson Davis chipped in 4 points, senior Tyren Wetzel had 3 points, and sophomores Isaac Keane and Ryan Sweet added 2 points each.

Manning added 8 rebounds, Callahan pulled down 7 boards, Adams made 3 assists, and Grab and Keane had 5 steals each.

Cowanesque Valley won the JV game 51-41. Sweet led the Hornets with 11 points and freshman Cameron Brought added 9.

The win improves the Hornets to 8-5 (5-2 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on the road in Athens on Wednesday, January 15.
