Junior Cathryn Brought threw a 2-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts as the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team beat Towanda 7-0 on Friday, May 10.
The Lady Hornets started off scoring right away as junior Ryann Adams led off with a walk before Brought belted a two-run home run to give Wellsboro the early lead. Wellsboro then added 3 more runs in the 3rd as freshman Emma Coolidge, sophomore Jena Boyce, and sophomore Kerrah Clymer all scored to make it 5-0.
The Lady Hornets scored twice more in the top of the 7th, once by Coolidge and once by Boyce, to preserve the shutout.
Wellsboro only had three hits on the afternoon Brought's home run, and singles by Clymer and senior Hailey Neal. Brought added 3 RBIs, Clymer had 2 RBIs, and Neal and Adams also drove in runs.
Brought pitched a complete game and picked up her 220th career strikeout in the win.
The win brings the Lady Hornets' record to 9-7 (8-5 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Monday, May 13 for Senior Night against Wyalusing.
