The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team fell to visiting Loyalsock 12-2 in 5 innings on Saturday, April 27.
Both teams each wore black and gold socks to raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer and both raised and donated money to Callie Cares.
The Lady Lancers jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st, scoring 9 of their runs to put the Lady Hornets quickly behind the eight ball. Loyalsock scatted 3 more runs on the afternoon, scoring one each in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
Wellsboro scored once in the bottom of the 2nd and once in the bottom of the 5th. Junior Cathryn Brought led off the 2nd with a double and later scored on a bloop single to center by senior Hailey Neal. In the 5th senior Tiana Lecker led off with a base hit over 1st. With junior Nina Coolidge on to pinch run, sophomore Kerrah Clymer tripled to score Coolidge.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 6-4 (5-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Monday, April 29 against Sayre.
