The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team suffered a 7-1 loss to Athens on Tuesday, April 30.
After falling behind 5-0 after the 2nd inning the Lady Hornets cut the Lady Wildcats' lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the 3rd. Junior Ryann Adams started the inning off with a base hit then later as junior Cathryn Brought drove her home. That's the only run Athens allowed as they went on to score two more runs in the 7th to pick up the NTL Large School Division win.
Wellsboro had 7 hits on the afternoon with sophomore Kerrah Clymer and senior Heidi Zuchowski each going 2-for-3 and Adams going 2-for-4. Sophomore Jena Boyce had the other hit for the Lady Hornets.
Brought gave up 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits, including a double and home run, in 7 innings of work. She also added 3 walks and 9 strikeouts on 116 pitches.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 7-5 (6-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action this afternoon on the road in Cowanesque Valley.
