The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team rebounded after a Tuesday night loss to Athens to defeat Towanda 9-1 on Wednesday, April 17.
After a scoreless first inning the Hornets put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd to take an early lead. Sophomore Kaeden Mann was hit by a pitch to lead off then freshman Darryn Callahan drove him home then senior Taynton Repard scored after picking him a base hit.
The Hornets then added 4 more runs in the 3rd to put the game firmly in their control. Freshman Isaac Keane, junior Carson Davis, Mann, and Callahan all crossed home plate to make it 6-0.
Wellsboro added one run in the 4th after junior Silas Wagaman led off with a single, then plated two more runs in in the sixth from Wagaman and sophomore Zach Rowland to go up 9-0. The Black Knights added their lone run in the top of the 7th.
The Hornets tallied 7 hits on the afternoon led by Wagaman and Repard, who each went 2-for-3 with RBIs. Keane, Rowland, and Mann added the other hits while senior Cam Tennis, Keane, Wagaman, Callahan, Repard, Rowland (2), and Mann all drove in runs.
Rowland started on the mound and pitched a complete game on a two-hit, 5 strikeout outing on 86 pitches.
The win improves the Hornets to 4-2 (4-2 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Monday, April 22 at Shikellamy.
