The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team suffered their fourth straight loss, 40-33, at Sayre on Friday, December 14.
Sayre held the Lady Hornets to just two field goals in the first quarter to lead 10-5 and edged them 8-7 in the second quarter to lead 18-12 at halftime.
Sayre increased their lead to 31-21 after the third quarter, but Wellsboro tried to rally in the fourth but came up short. The Lady Hornets outscored Sayre 12-9, led by 8 points from senior Emma Poirier, but couldn't close the gap from the third quarter.
"The girls were in the game all night," said head coach Maureen Poirier. "We are still struggling offensively and need work on our offensive game as we go forward."
Poirier scored 16 points to lead the Lady Hornets while junior Liza Manning joined her in double-figures with 12 points. Junior Cathryn Brought and and senior Heidi Zuchowski had 2 points each and senior Dani Hunt chipped in a point.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 0-4 (0-1 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, December 18 against rival North Penn-Mansfield.
