The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team dropped a 3-2 contest to Lakeland on Saturday, September 23.
Wellsboro took and early lead as senior Kailee Clymer found freshman Kerrah Clymer for a breakway goal to put the Lady Hornets up 1-0 in the 13th minute. Wellsboro held on to their lead for 20 minutes until Lakeland's Marissa Boles scored on an assist from Sam Calachino to tie it up.
Wellsboro retook the lead in the 60th minute as junior Emma Poirier converted a penalty kick.
The lead didn't last long, however, as Calachino cleaned up a missed shot attempt for a goal to tie it back up in the 65th minute. Then with 3 minutes remaining, Lakeland's Maria Good scored to give the Lady Chiefs the win.
Lakeland outshot Wellsboro 15-11 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Emily Sashko stopped 5 shots on the afternoon and senior Sydney Tremper made 10 saves.
Lakeland also won the JV game 1-0.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 4-2 (4-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 27 against Williamsport.
