Troy, Wellsboro, NEB claim shutouts; Sayre tops Williamson

Troy, Wellsboro, and Northeast Bradford picked up NTL girls soccer shutout victories on Monday, September 11.

Troy 10, North Penn-Mansfield 0

Riley McClellan scored 5 goals in the Trojans shutout of North Penn-Mansfield in NTL girls soccer action Monday. Nicole McClellan started the scoring at 7:40 as Riley McClellan assisted, then Riley McClellan scored back-to-back goals to make it 3-0. Sadie Shedden, assisted by Joelle Urban, scored at 28:31 then Nicole McClellan made it 5-0 less than 10 minutes later.

Marissa Bulkley scored to start the second period and Riley McClellan followed with her third goal 5 minutes later. Libby Vogel, assisted by Kathryn Rathbun, scored in the 71st minute to make it 8-0 before Riley McClellan again scored back-to-back goals, both assisted by Nicole McClellan, to close out the game.

Troy's defense limited Mansfield's offense to a single shot attempt, while taking 34 of their own. Troy had a 4-1 corner kick advantage.

Troy's Brianna Rathbun recorded 1 save while Mansfield's Alaina McKee saved 24 shots.

Wellsboro 8, Wyalusing 0

Emma Poirier and Kailee Clymer each netted hat tricks in the Lady Hornets' first victory of the season. Clymer scored two more second period goals to complete the hat trick, Poirier scored to make it 5-0 on an assist from Clymer before Alyssa Yungwirth scored a goal off a corner kick in the 66th minute.

Kerrah Clymer scored to make it 7-0 off a Poirier assist, then Poirier finished the scoring and completed her hat trick, with an assist from the younger Clymer, in the 77th minute.

Wellsboro's Sydney Tremper made 6 saves for the shutout.

Northeast Bradford 5, Towanda 0

Karlayn Walter scored 2 goals in the Panthers NTL shutout victory. Walter scored the game's first goal followed by Hannah Shadduck and Karissa Cowles before Walter scored her second. Kiah Russell also added a goal.

LeighAnn Vanderpool, Kara Brown, Shadduck, and McKenzie Johnson added assists for NEB.

NEB outshot Towanda 34-6 and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sayre 10, Williamson 1

Sayre's Kirsten Covey scored 4 goals for the Lady Redskins in the win Monday. Stephanie Klovekorn and Madisyn Wheeler both scored two goals each while Maddie Lamanna and Lauran Krall pitched in with goals.

Wheeler and Abby Moliski recorded 2 saves each, and Lamanna, Krall, Klovekorn, and Sara Ciavardini made assists. Blair Wampole and Camry Lane both recorded 2 saves each in net.

Jenna Gee scored Williamson's lone goal of the night and Mercedes Bailey made 9 saves.

"Williamson came out hard and it took us a bit to get our game together," said Sayre head coach Tracy Mennig. "It was great to have some newcomers find the back of the net tonight."
