North Penn-Liberty volleyball tops Wellsboro

North Penn-Liberty defeated Wellsboro 3-1 in NTL Large School Division volleyball to remain undefeated on Tuesday, September 19.

Liberty won the first set 25-21 and convincingly won the second set, 25-14. Wellsboro rallied to win the third 25-20 to force a fourth set. The Lady Hornets started out in control of the fourth but Liberty battled back to win 25-19 and claim the match.

Charisma Grega led North Penn-Liberty with 2 aces, 15 points, 12 kills, 2 blocks, and 15 digs; Savannah Doney added 3 kills, 6 points, 30 receptions, 1 assist, and 13 digs; Maddison Minyo had 3 aces, 11 points, 6 kills, and 2 blocks; Brooke Harvey had 2 aces, 10 points, 5 kills, 13 receptions, and 9 digs; JoAnne McNamara added 3 points, 3 kills, 17 assists, and 5 digs; and Elli Fry recorded 6 kills, 4 blocks, and 1 dig.

For Wellsboro, Cheyenne Sherman had 9 kills, 11 points, 2 aces, and 14 digs; Caitlyn Callahan had 7 kills and 4 blocks; Heidi Zuchowski recorded 5 kills, 5 points, and 2 aces; Megan Starkweather scored 10 points; Hannah Burnett made 17 digs; and Brianne Keane had 24 assists.

Liberty also won the JV game 2-0 (25-18, 26-24) to end Wellsboro's 27-game win streak dating back to last season.

Williamson 3, Northeast Bradford 0

The Lady Warriors cruised to a first set 25-11 victory then won the next two 25-18, 25-18. Hannah Deacon had 8 kills, 7 points, 2 blocks, and 4 digs; Ella Durst and Emylee Yusko each scored 12 points; Kamryn Miller had 8 digs; and Mikala Coots had 14 assists.

Wyalusing 3, Towanda 0

The Lady Rams topped their rivals in straight sets to Tuesday to improve to 6-0.

Karlye Huffman had 5 kills and 29 assists to lead Wyalusing. Kristie Epler had 32 digs, Melody Kneller recorded 18 kills, and Makayla Voda and Lylah Oswald finished with 6 kills each.

Troy 3, Athens 0

The Lady Trojans swept Athens in straight sets: 25-17, 25-18, and 26-24 to send Athens home with a loss. Amelia Martin had 9 points, 5 digs, and 9 assists for the Lady Wildcats; Sydney Liechty had 1 point, 3 digs, and 6 kills; Ashtyn Allen registered 4 points and 10 digs; Meghan Mcduffee had 9 points, 16 digs, and 1 kill; and Cassidy Stackpole recorded 3 points, 3 digs, and 5 kills.
