Liberty sweeps Horseheads, Wellsboro edges Central Mountain

North Penn-Liberty and Wellsboro each improved to 6-0 with Athens picked up their first win of the year in NTL volleyball action on Monday, September 18.

North Penn-Liberty 3, Horseheads 0

Liberty won in straight sets against Horseheads (NY) on Monday; 25-19, 25-18, and 25-18.

Mariah Kshir with 2 aces, 12 pts, 3 kills, 3 blocks, 15 assists and 5 digs; Brooke Harvey added 7 pts, 6 kills, 10 service receptions and 5 digs; Charisma Grega scored 7 pts, 9 kills, 6 receptions, 1 block and 12 digs; Savannah Doney had 5 pts, 14 receptions, and 12 digs; JoAnne McNamara added 3 aces, 8 pts, 18 assists and 3 digs; Maddison Minyo had 1 ace, 3 pts, 10 kills and 2 digs; Ellianna Fry added 4 kills and 2 blocks; and Allison Koval had 6 receptions and 6 digs.

Wellsboro 3, Central Mountain 2

The Lady Hornets won took the first set in the back and forth game 25-18. Central Mountain won the next two sets 25-16 and 25-23 before the Lady Hornets won the fourth 25-19 to force a fifth set. Wellsboro edged Central Mountain 15-13 in the final set to win the game.

Senior Brianne Keane led the team with 30 assists and 3 blocks, senior Cheyenne Sherman had 13 digs and 11 kills, sophomore Caitlyn Callahan had 8 kills, senior Jillian Graver had 6 kills and 9 points with 2 aces, and sophomore Megan Starkweather had 14 points, 2 aces, 6 kills, and 5 blocks.

Sophomore Ryann Adams also had 8 points and 13 digs in the win.

Athens 3, Canton 1

The Lady Wildcats won their first game of the year by beating Canton on Monday. Canton won the first set 25-20 then Athens won the next three: 25-21, 25-12, and 25-19.

Jocelyn Burns had 3 points, 12 digs, and 2 kills; Megan McDuffee recorded 3 points, 8 digs, and 4 kills; Sydney Liecty finished with 1 point, 1 dig, 1 block, and 4 kills; Amelia Martin scored 12 points, had 15 digs, 1 kill, and 12 assists; and Ashtyn Allen notched 1 point, 11 digs, and 1 kill.
