The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team suffered a 69-33 loss to Montoursville (13-1) on Monday, January 16.
Montoursville got the Lady Hornets out of their rhythm early as they scored 29 points in the opening quarter, while holding Wellsboro to just 7. Alexis Marchioni scored 18 out of her game-high 29 points in the opening quarter to give the Lady Warriors complete control. Montoursville led 42-16 at halftime and 53-28 after three, and the Lady Hornets were never able to recover.
Junior Rachael Tuttle led Wellsboro with 12 points and 7 rebounds, and grabbed her 500th career rebound on the night. Senior Jessica Grab had 6, senior Autum Kitajima and junior Lizzie Poirier both scored 5 points, senior Janessa Davis had 3 points, and freshman Cathryn Brought rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Montoursville also won the JV game 42-35, ending the Lady Hornets' seven-game win streak. Brought led Wellsboro with 21 points.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 8-5 (7-1 NTL). The team will be back in action later tonight against North Penn-Liberty.
