The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team rebounded from an loss to Sayre on Thursday for an easy 47-19 win over Cowanesque Valley on Saturday, January 21.
The Lady Hornets controlled the entire game as they put up 18 first quarter points, while holding CV to just two. Wellsboro added another 13 in the second to lead 31-9 at halftime. Wellsboro then outscored CV 16-10 in the second half to cruise to victory.
Junior Lizzie Poirier led all scorers with a game-high 14 points and added 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Junior Rachael Tuttle recorded her second double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and senior Autum Kitajima had 5 points. Seniors Janessa Davis and Jessica Grab and sophomore Emma Poirier all scored 4 points, and junior Mikel Shabloski, sophomore Dani Hunt, and freshman Cathryn Brought all added two points each.
Davis added 11 rebounds and 5 assists, Kitajima had 5 assists and 5 steals, Grab made 6 steals, and sophomore Heidi Zuchowski grabbed 4 rebounds.
Wellsboro won the JV game 30-13 to improve to 11-4. Brought and freshman Jaime Palmer both scored 8 points, while freshman Liza Manning pitched in with 6.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 10-6 (9-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, January 24 at home against Wyalusing.
