The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team suffered an 8-2 loss to Troy in their season opener on Wednesday, September 6.
Troy scored two first period goals to jump on top of the Hornets early on. Troy's Riley McClelland (assisted by Madison McClelland) and Nicole McClelland made it 2-0.
Later in the second period Nicole McClelland added three more goals while Morgan Graybill and Riley McClelland (2) added three more. Riley McClelland also surpassed 50 career goals on the night.
Senior Alyssa Yungwirth and junior Alivia Kennedy scored goals for the Lady Hornets and senior Sydney Tremper made 14 saves in goal.
Troy outshot Wellsboro 21-11 and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
"Troy played a very solid game both offensive and defensive," said first year head coach Scott Burrous. "They beat us to the ball all night. I was proud of the Hornets, they did not quit and they played hard the whole game."
The JV game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 0-1 (0-1 NTL) to start the year. The team will be back in action on Monday, September 11 against Wyalusing.
