The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team dropped their final regular season game to Cowanesque Valley on Saturday, March 11.
The young Lady Hornets trailed 3-2 after the first quarter then CV started to pull away with 5 points in the second quarter, while holding Wellsboro scoreless, to lead 8-2 at halftime. Wellsboro managed to make some shots in the third, but still trailed 14-6 after the third. The wheels fell off in the fourth as CV outscored Wellsboro 11-3 for the 25-9 victory.
"We struggled with Cowanesque’s 1-3-1 zone and had too many unforced turnovers," said head coach D. "We got some good looks at the basket, but only made 3-of-28 shots in the game.On top of that, we were in foul trouble early."
Kiyah Boyce, Lindsey Marmara, Bailey Monks, and Emma Pietropola had 2 points each and Sarah Mosher finished with 1 point.
The game is the last Middle School game for six Lady Hornets.
"It is a tough way to end our season, but looking back, the girls accomplished a lot and I am very happy with the progress they all made throughout the year. I wish our 8th graders all the best as they move into the high school program," concluded Morris.
Wellsboro's B team won an abbreviated game 15-8.
The Lady Hornets finish the year with an 11-11 record.
