The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team closed out the 2017 regular season with a 3-2 win over Sayre on Saturday, October 21.
The win didn't come easy as the Lady Hornets had to overcome a first half deficit.
A goal by freshman Jena Boyce off an assist by junior Zoe Iseri 14 minutes into the game put the Lady Hornets up 1-0 early, but the Lady Redskins scored two quick goals, by Blair Wampole and Stephanie Klovecorn, in four minutes to jump on top at the break.
26 minutes into the second half Boyce struck again to tie it then senior Kaitlyne Kramer scored her first career goal six minutes later to give Wellsboro back the lead. Neither team would score the remainder of the way, giving Wellsboro the win.
Wellsboro outshot Sayre 19-9 and 5-1 in corner kicks.
Senior Sydney Tremper recorded 6 saves and Camry Lane had 7 saves for Sayre.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 11-6-1 (10-3-1 NTL). The team will wait for their seeding in the District IV playoffs.
