The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team improved to 11-6 (10-2 NTL) with a 48-38 win over Towanda on Thursday, January 26.
The Lady Hornets took a 12-8 first quarter lead an never looked back. Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter, but the Lady Hornets hung on to their four point lead at 23-19. Wellsboro added a little distant in the third quarter by outscoring Towanda 10-8, then outscored the Lady Knights 15-10 in the fourth to cement the win.
After a slow start junior Lizzie Poirier finished with 14 points to be the game's leading scorer and senior Autum Kitajima scored 11, her highest point total of the season. Freshman Cathryn Brought scored a career-high 9 points, senior Jessica Grab had 6, sophomore Emma Poirier finished with 4, senior Janessa Davis pitched in with 3 points, and junior Rachael Tuttle rounded out the scoring with a point.
Wellsboro won the JV game 38-19 to improve to 12-4. Sophomore Heidi Zuchowski led the Lady Hornets with 11 points.
The girls return to action on Saturday, January 28 on the road in Danville.
