The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team wrapped up their NTL regular season schedule with a 52-37 win over Troy on Monday, February 6.
The win also gave the Hornets a share of the Large School Division title with North Penn-Mansfield as both team split their regular season matchups and finished with 15-1 league records. The title is the Hornets' first in the past four seasons under head coach Todd Outman (2012-13).
Wellsboro jumped out to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter then outscored the Trojans 14-4 in the second to lead 30-15 at halftime. Wellsboro again put up big numbers in the third with an 18-point quarter to extend their lead to 48-28 before playing ball-control offense the majority of the fourth quarter.
Senior Alden Weiner and junior Dalton Prough each scored 13 points to lead the Hornets, senior Jacob Singer had 8, senior Brandon Lamphier and junior Collin Pietropola both finished with 7, and juniors Nic Ingerick and Quinn Henry added 2 points off the bench. Prough added 7 rebounds to his point total, Henry had 5 assists, Pietropola had 4 assists and 4 rebounds, Weiner grabbed 3 rebounds, Singer had 2 assists, and Lamphier finished with 2 rebounds and 4 assists.
Prough has now scored 294 points and has grabbed 142 rebounds, Singer hit his 52nd three-pointer of the year and has scored 246 points this season (532 career, 107 three's), and Lamphier recorded his 77th assist this season (124th of career).
Wellsboro won the JV game 50-10 to improve to 16-3 on the year.
The Hornets will now prepare for Thursday's NTL Showdown. The Hornets are the #1 Large School Division seed, ahead of North Penn-Mansfield due to overall season winning percentage, and will take on the #2 Small School Division seed on Thursday, February 9.
