The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team won their 7th straight game after topping Towanda 67-28 on Friday, January 27.
The Hornets took control early and never looked back for their 15th win of the season. Senior Jacob Singer led the Hornets with 8 of his 12 points in the first quarter. Wellsboro led 20-6 after the first, and kept up their defensive pressure in the second by holding Towanda to 16 total points at halftime, while scoring 39.
Wellsboro continued to outscore Towanda in the second half, and built their lead to 40+ points to enact they mercy rule in the fourth quarter.
Junior Collin Pietropola scored a career-high 17 points to led Wellsboro on the night, with the majority of his points coming in the second half. Singer finished with 12, and junior Dalton Prough scored 10. Junior Quinn Henry scored 7 off the bench, senior Brandon Lamphier, junior Nic Ingerick, and sophomore Brandyn Tuttle all scored 6, sophomore Holden Kennedy scored 2, and senior Alden Weiner rounded out the scoring with a point.
Tuttle led the team with 9 rebounds, Prough finished with 8 boards and 4 steals, Pietropola and Singer both grabbed 5 rebounds, and Lamphier had 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Henry had 2 assists to put over 130 for his career and Ingerick also made 2 assists. Singer also added 3 steals.
Wellsboro won the JV game 48-32 to improve to 15-1 on the year. Tuttle led the team with 14 points and sophomore Andrew Brelo scored 9.
The win improves the Varsity team to 15-3 (12-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, February 1 at rival North Penn-Mansfield.
