The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team improved to 3-0 following a 10-6 win over Towanda on Saturday, April 8.
"Another good performance today," said head coach Philip Prough. "Offensively, we have another game with many players having hits. Our pitching continues to be consistent too. We're pleased but have more to work on."
The Hornets jumped on top of the Black Knights early, scoring 6 runs in the first inning. Towanda added a run in the second, but Wellsboro added two runs in the third and the fifth to make it 10-3. Towanda scored 3 runs in the seventh, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Junior Dalton Prough continued his great start to the season with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, both hits being doubles, with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Junior Johnny Rowland compiled two hits and 2 RBI's as the Hornets totalled 10 hits for the game.
Freshman Carson Davis started on the mound, pitching 4 innings and struck out the side in the first inning. Sophomore Taynton Repard pitched 3 innings in relief and Prough closed out the game with an inning.
The win improves the Hornets to 3-0 (3-0 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Monday, April 10 at home against Athens.
