The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team suffered a 3-0 shutout against Canton on Wednesday, April 5.
"Canton played well tonight and put a few runs on us early," said head coach Ron Brought. "I was happy to see our girls continued to play hard and not get rattled."
Canton scored twice in the bottom of the first, and again in the bottom of the third for the game's only runs. Wellsboro struggled at the plate on the night, only picking up 4 hits.
"We had opportunities to score in both the 6th and 7th innings but couldn't get the hits we needed," Brought said. "Even though the team was disappointed with the loss we understand it's early and we have a lot of games left to play."
Junior Brianne Keane went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Hornets. Junior Kailee Clymer was 1-for-2 and sophomore Tiana Lecker was 1-for-3. Junior Alyssa Yungwirth pitched a complete game, allowing 4 hits in 6 innings of work while striking out 10.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 1-1 (1-1 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action later this afternoon at Hughesville.
