Sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth pitched a no-hitter in the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team's 4-0 shutout over Wyalusing on Monday, April 25.
Yungwirth pitched a complete game, striking out 13 batters on 94 pitches, and was a hit batter away from throwing a perfect game. In two games against Wyalusing this year, Yungwirth has pitched 2 shutouts, allowed only 3 hits, and struck out 20 batters.
Wellsboro jumped out to an early 1-0 in the second inning then added one more in the fourth and two runs in the seventh for the win. Sophomore Brianne Keane led the Lady Hornets at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing with a run scored. Senior Sarah Ingerick also had multiple hits, as she was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Yungwirth and seniors Alexa Singer and Jenny Young were all 1-for-4, and sophomore Sydney Tremper was 1-for-3.
Tremper and Keane scored runs on the night, while Yungwirth crossed home plate twice.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 7-2. The team will be back in action later today against Towanda.
