The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team pushed their win streak to eight game with a 30-13 victory over Sayre on Saturday, February 20.
The Young Lady Hornets held a narrow 8-5 lead after the first quarter and only led 12-8 at halftime, but outscored Sayre 18-5 in the second half to pick up the win. Cathryn Brought led Wellsboro with 15 points, Jaime Palmer had 8 points and 11 steals, Liza Manning had 5 points and 5 rebounds, and Lauren Singer had 2 points and 6 rebounds.
"Our defense was awesome the whole game," said Wellsboro head coach Darrell Morris. "All the girls played really well on that end of the floor, and almost all of Sayre's points were because we turned the ball over. We couldn't get anything in the basket in the first half. We regrouped at halftime and the girls played a great 3rd quarter, scoring the first 14 points of quarter."
The Wellsboro B team also won 29-8. Bri Tuttle had 8 points, while Sarah Mosher and Breighanna Kemp had 4 points each. Jena Boyce had 3 points, and Faith Avery, Kylie Butler, Emma Palmer, Kiyah Boyce and Chelsie English all added 2 each.
The win improves to girls' record to 8-0 on the year. The team will be on the road tomorrow night in Wyalusing.
