The Wellsboro Middle School Soccer team continued their undefeated season with a 2-0 shutout victory against Athens on Friday, September 16.
The Hornets' first goal came from a penalty kick. Kaeden Mann was fouled inside the box and drew the penalty kick which Will Poirier put in the back of the net. The second goal came from a cross by Poirier and went to Mann's foot and into the net.
Joseph Grab had three shots on goal, Mann had two shots on goal and one goal, and Poirier had five shots on goal and one goal. Zach Singer had two shots on goal, Bayley Wilcox had one shot on goal, Ethan Ryan recorded 5 keeper saves and one save as a defender for a total of 6 saves. Zach Rowland also had two keeper saves on the day.
"I am very proud of the players on both teams," said head coach Wes Wood. "They are spread out and looking for a cross to get an assist rather then everyone trying to score a goal. They are playing very well and have a very good sense of team. I couldn't ask for a better group of players."
The B-team tied 1-1. Ethan Barlett had one shot on Goal as well as Sam Freeman, Cam Littleton, and Liam Manning. Liam Manning had one goal that came from a cross by Sam Freeman where liam shot and scored.
The team is now 3-0 on the year, and will be back in action on Wednesday, September 21 at Williamson.
