The Wellsboro Middle School Soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 4-0 win against Galeton on Wednesday, September 14.

"I was very happy with their performance, Galeton is overall a very good team who can move the ball from there outside backs or keeper right to their forwards," said head coach Wes Wood. "Galeton was also very skilled at collecting out the air; however Wellsboro was able to steal the ball as soon as Galeton collected the ball to the ground."

Wellsboro went up 1-0 on a shot from Joseph Grab that bounced off the crossbar straight to Will Poirier who ripped a shot from inside the 18 that hit the back of the net. The second goal came with 7 minutes left to go in the first half as Owen Richardson dribbled up the sideline bringing 3 defenders with him, then split them with a pass to Kaeden Mann who received the ball with his back to the goal, then turned and released a laser shot to the side net for a goal.

The Hornets added their third goal of the half on a sliding goal by Jonathan Wetzel into the back of the net, then Grab scored the forth and final goal on a pass from Kara Clymer and punched it in 7 seconds before the first half ended.

We controlled the ball in our attacking half for the majority of the game," continued Wood. "Some key players were injured or became injured during the game and the subs really steeped up and played well. The team has yet to be scored on after two shutouts."

Grab had 5 shots on goal, Mann had 4 shots on goal, Poirier had 5 shots on goal, Zach Singer had two shots on goal, Richardson and Clymer both had one assist, and Lilly Abadi recorded 7 keeper saves.

In the B-game, the Hornets lost 1-0. Wellsboro also controlled the ball for large amounts of time but unfortunately could not find the back of the net. Galeton had five break aways where keeper Ethan Ryan saved four of the five. Madelyn Rudy had three shots on goal. Cam Littleton, Liam Manning, and Matt Richards all had one shot on goal.

The team is back in action later this afternoon in Athens.
