The Wellsboro Middle School Baseball team won their third consecutive game with a 10-1 victory over Cowanesque Valley on Tuesday, May 3.
The Hornets scored 2 runs in the first inning as Silas Wagaman and Billy Lechler eached crossed home plate to give the Hornets an early lead. CV scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the inning. Wellsboro kept their 2-1 lead until the third when they added 5 runs to put the game out of reach. Wagaman, Lechler, Carson Davis, Kaeden Mann, and Clayton Orsborn all scored to make it 7-1 Hornets.
Wellsboro added 3 more runs in the fifth inning to close out the scoring as Davis, Mann, and Tyler Hancock scored.
Mann was 2-for-2 to lead the Hornets, while Wagaman and Lechler were both 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Brock Hamblin was 1-for-2 and Davis and Hancock were both 1-for-3.
Lechler earned the win in 4 innings of work, allowing an earned run and 3 hits while striking out 5 batters. Davis came on in relief for the final 3 innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out 6.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 7-1-1 on the year. The team will be in action for their final game of the year on Saturday, May 7 against Canton.
