A career-high scoring night from junior Brandon Lamphier helped the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team to a 62-28 win over Sayre on Tuesday, January 19.
The Hornets jumped out to a 21-9 first quarter lead and never looked back for their ninth win of the year. Sayre did manage to outscore Wellsboro 9-8 in the second quarter as the Hornets went flat, but Wellsboro picked the tempo back up and scored 33 points in the second half to Sayre's 10 to secure the win.
Lamphier led all scorers, and bested his previous career-high 17 points from last season, with 20 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Junior Jacob Singer dropped 13 points on the night and senior Dawson Prough also put up double-digit points with 10. Sophomore Collin Pietropola scored seven points and had five rebounds, sophomore Quinn Henry had six points and four assists, junior Alden Weiner had four, and sophomore Nic Ingerick rounded out the scoring with two points.
The JV team kep their undefeated season going at 15-0 with a 47-18 win. Freshman Brandyn Tuttle led the Hornets with 12 points, Ingerick had 10, and freshman Holden Kennedy added nine.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 9-6. The team will be back in action at home against Troy on Thursday, January 21.
