Three first half goals pushed the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team to a 3-1 win over Northeast Bradford on Wednesday, September 21.
Sophomore Emma Poirier scored the game's first goal with 27:08 remaining to make it 1-0, then not even two minutes later, sophomore Julia Smith scored on an assist from Poirier to make it 2-0. Poirier again assisted Smith with 4:22 remaining in the first half to give the Lady Hornets a commanding 3-0 lead.
The score remained 3-0 Wellsboro until NEB's Katy Jefferson scored with 2:08 remaining to break the shutout.
NEB outshot Wellsboro 14-11 in the game, but the Lady Hornets edged NEB 5-2 in penalty kicks. Smith and junior Alyssa Yungwirth each took 3 shots on goal, Poirier took 4, and junior Kailee Clymer took 1. Clymer also made 13 saves in goal for the win.
The win is the Lady Hornets' third in a row to even their record up at 4-4 (4-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 24 against Lakeland at Mansfield University.
