Lady Hornets top Mifflinburg

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team beat defending Heartland Athletic Conference Mifflinburg 45-43 on Saturday, January 30.

The Lady Hornets held a 15-5 lead after the opening quarter as senior Jada Jackson scored eight of the team's points. Mifflinburg made up a little ground in the second but outscoring Wellsboro 13-10, but the Lady Hornets still held a 25-18 lead at halftime.

Mifflinburg then cut the Lady Hornets' lead to one at the the end of the third quarter as they outscored Wellsboro 14-8, but Wellsboro held on in the final quarter, and outscored Mifflinburg 12-11, to pick up the win.

Sophomore Lizzie Poirier led the Lady Hornets with 15 points and Jackson also finished in double figures with 12 points to go along with nine rebounds. Sophomore Rachael Tuttle scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds, senior Sarah Ingerick scored seven, and junior Jessica Grab finished with three points.

The JV team had their six-game win streak snapped with a 33-27 loss.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 16-4. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 2 as they travel to Athens.
