The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team improved to 12-1 with a 28-10 victory over Liberty on Thursday, March 3.
The young Lady Hornets ran up an 8-2 lead after the first quarter and 12-4 at halftime. Wellsoro held Liberty scoreless in the third as they put the game away with 14 points.
Cathryn Brought had 14 points, Liza Manning, Chelsea Morris, and Jaime Palmer had 4 points each, and Kayla Mengee had 2 points.
"We played pretty flat in the first half and Liberty did a good job of rebounding and limiting us to one shot on most of our possessions," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and went on a 14-0 run, which shows how we can play when everyone gives great effort. I am looking forward to seeing how our girls respond to the challenges we will face this weekend in the tournament."
Wellsboro won the B game 20-7 to move to 11-2 on the year. Sarah Mosher, Jena Boyce, and Chelsie English had 4 points each, Kiyah Boyce, Kylie Butler, Bailey Monks, and Angela DeBockler had 2 points each.
The team will be back in action tomorrow at the Towanda Tournament against Central Mountain in the first round.
