The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team picked up their 15th win of the season with a 23-10 victory over Cowanesque Valley on Tuesday, March 8.
"We played great defense against a much improved CV squad," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We struggled some on offense at times, but seven girls got in the scoring column and we made plays when we had to. Our defense has carried us all year and only one team has scored more than 19 points on us in 17 games. It's not always pretty, but our girls and their great defense have gotten it done."
The young Lady Hornets led 9-4 after the first quarter, but struggled to hit shots in the second and third quarters as they only managed 10 combined points. Wellsboro led 13-6 at the half, but CV closed the gap to nine points as the fourth quarter entered, but Wellsboro shut CV out in the final quarter to pick up the win.
Cathryn Brought had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals, Liza Manning had 6 points, and 7 rebounds, and Kayla Mengee, Chelsea Morris, Georgia Macensky, and Lauren Singer (5 rebounds) had 2 points each. Jaime Palmer finished with 6 steals and had 1 point.
The Wellsboro B team also won 16-9 to improve to 12-2. Faith Avery and Jena Boyce scored 4 each, while Alexandra Chilson, Bri Tuttle, Kiyah Boyce, and Breighanna Kemp had 2 each.
The Lady Hornets will be back on the court on Thursday, March 10 as they travel to Mansfield.
