The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team picked up their first win of the year with a 2-0 shutout over Wyalusing on Wednesday, September 14.
With only 3 goals in their first three games, the Lady Hornets' offense picked up against the Lady Rams as they managed score twice on the night. Sophomore Kabrie Karschner scored the game's opening goal with 14:16 showing on the clock in the first half to make it 1-0.
Later in the second half, sophomore Emma Poirier delivered a pass to sophomore Dahlia Hosey with 12:31 remaining to make it 2-0 and secure the victory.
Sophomore Julia Smith took 4 shots on the night, Poirier took 2, and Karschner, Hosey, and sophomore Elizabeth Macias each took one. Junior Alyssa Yungwirth had corner kick and Poirier had 9, and junior Kailee Clymer picked up her first shutout of the year by making 9 saves in goal.
The win was not only the Lady Hornets' first of the year, but it was also the first for head coach TJ Freeman.
"The girls played an aggressive match and held off the Lady Rams with strength," Freeman said. "We had a lot of shooting opportunities and hope to dial those in as we practice. This is a very tough week with 5 games in 8 days, but we're hoping to stay strong."
The Lady Hornets are now 1-3 (1-2 NTL) on the year. The team will be back in action later this afternoon against South Williamsport.
