The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team scored a 10-0 shutout over Towanda on Wednesday, April 27.
The shutout was the Lady Hornets' second of the week, as they shutout Wyalusing 4-0 on Monday. Unlike Tuesday's game with Towanda, Wellsboro started the scoring early as they scored 4 runs in the second inning, 1 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 3 in the fifth to close the game out.
Sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth pitched her second consecutive shutout to improve to 4-2 on the year. Yungwirth threw a two-hitter, while walking one and striking out 9 on 74 pitches.
Senior Darci Warriner was 3-for-3 with a triple and 2 doubles to lead the Lady Hornets at the plate. Sophomore Brianne Keane went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored 3 runs, senior Jenny Young was 2-for-4 with an RBI, freshman Emma Poirier was 1-for-2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, sophomore Kailee Clymer was 1-for-2, and Yungwirth was 1-for-3 with a double, RBI, and run scored.
The win improves Wellsboro's record to 9-2 overall. The team will be back in action on Friday, April 29 in non-league action as they host Coudersport.
