The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team pounded out 13 hits en route to a 10-0 shut out of Troy on Wednesday, April 13.
The Lady Hornets scored a run in the first inning, added 2 in the third, then exploded for 7 runs in the 5th to finish off the game. Senior Alexa Singer pitched a complete game, allowing only 2 hits on 66 pitches. Singer walked 1 and struck out 7 of the 17 batters she faced on the night.
Senior Darci Warriner led Wellsboro at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI's, and a run scored. Senior Sarah Ingerick was 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBI's, and 3 runs scored, and sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Singer, senior Jenny Young, freshman Emma Poirier, and sophomores Sydney Tremper and Kailee Clymer, and Brianne Keane all added hits on the night.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 3-0, and are now 8-2 in their last 10 games dating back to May 11 of last year. The team will be back in action on Friday, April 15 against rival North Penn-Liberty.
