The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Baasketball team evened up their season record with a 49-28 win over Williamson on Friday, December 16.
The Lady Hornets opened up the game with a 15 first quarter points, while holding Williamson to just 3. Wellsboro put the game out of reach in the second, outscoring Williamson 12-4 for a 27-7 lead. Williamson gained back a little ground in the third by outscoring Wellsboro 10-6 behind 7 points from Brittany Boyce, half of her total points in the game, but Wellsboro outscored Williamson 16-11 in the final frame for the 21 point win.
Junior Lizzie Poirier led all scorers with 15 points, and shot a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line, and senior Janessa Davis recorded 11 (3-for-3 from the foul line) to lead Wellsboro on the night. Junior Rachael Tuttle contributed with 8 points, sophomore Emma Poirier had 7, senior Jessica Grab had 5, and senior Autum Kitajima pitched in with 3.
Tuttle had a career-high 22 rebounds and a blocked shot, Davis finished with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals, and Lizzie Poirier had 6 rebounds, a blocked shot, an assist, and a steal.
Wellsboro's JV team (1-2) picked up their first win of the year with a 28-20 win. Sophomore Dani Hunt and freshman Cathryn Brought each had 9 points on the night.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 2-2 (1-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, December 19 against Jersey Shore.
