Jersey Shore's Hannah Kaufman hit a buzzer-beater to give the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team their third loss of the year on Monday, December 19.
After trailing 21-11 at halftime, Jersey Shore cut the Lady Hornets' lead to 25-24 heading into the fourth quarter, after holding Wellsboro to just 4 points in the third quarter. Shore then outscored 14-13 to tie it up before Kaufman's heroics sent Wellsboro home with a loss. Kaufman led all scorers with 21 points.
Junior Lizzie Poirier led Wellsboro with 12 points and 9 rebounds, junior Rachael Tuttle had 9 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore Emma Poirier had 8 points. Senior Janessa Davis scored 5 points and senior Autum Kitajima and freshman Cathryn Brought each had 2 points.
Tuttle and Davis each had 3 assists, Kitajima had 4 steals, and Davis and senior Jessica Grab had 5 rebounds each. Tuttle also had 2 blocked shots on the night.
Jersey Shore also won the JV game 44-41. Freshman Jaime Palmer scored a team-high 12 points and junior Mikel Shabloski pitched in with 8.
The loss drops the Varsity team's record to 2-3 (1-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, December 21 at Northeast Bradford.
