The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball team lost a heartbreaker, 24-23, to Northeast Bradford on Friday, February 26.
The loss ends the team's 10-game winning streak.
"It just wasn't meant to be tonight," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We missed too many easy shots, we missed 10 free throws, and we had more turnovers than points. Despite all that, we still had a great chance to win the game."
The Lady Hornets were up 4-2 after the first quarter and 10-5 at halftime, but NEB rallied in the third and outscored Wellsboro 10-4 to lead 15-14 going into the fourth quarter where they were able to hang on to knock off the previously undefeated Lady Hornets.
"Our girls never gave up, even when it seemed that everything wasn't going our way," continued Morris. "The girls are disappointed, but they have nothing to hang their heads about. They have done so well this season, which makes this seem like a tough loss, but I truly believe this will only make us better down the road."
Lauren Singer had 8 points and 4 rebounds to lead the team, while Jaime Palmer and Cathryn Brought had 4 points each. Liza Manning had 5 points and 6 rebounds, and Chelsea Morris had 2 points and 5 rebounds.
Wellsboro also lost the B game, 11-4.
The loss drops the young Lady Hornets to 10-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 1 as they hit the road to take on Williamson.
