The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team suffered a 42-21 non-league loss to Sullivan County on Thursday, December 22.
Sullivan's James McCamley pinned freshman Aidan Hauser at 145 lbs. to start the match and senior Caleb Sinkler pinned Jacoby Fitzgerald at 152 lbs. to even the match up at 6-6. Sullivan ran off three straight forfeits at 160-182 lbs. to take the lead, but Wellsboro went on their own three-match winning streak.
Sophomore Hunter Brown won a 6-2 decision over Jared Houck at 195 bs., sophomore Robert Brown pinned David Maxwell at 220 lbs., and senior Kaleb Smith pinned Jeremy Houck at 285 lbs. After three double forfeits at 106-120 lbs., Sullivan scored forfeits at 126, 132, and 138 to close out the match.
In the Middle School match, the Hornets won 51-18 to improve to 1-3. Noah Marks, Brock Hamblin, Coleman Brown, Dustin Clark, Justice Harlan, Kyle Manogue, and Wayne Shirley all won by forfeit. Travis Winters won by fall at 145 lbs. and Alex Moore won an 8-0 major decision at 155 lbs.
The Hornets (0-4, 0-3 NTL) will be back in action on Thursday, January 5 at Williamson.
