The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team scored 7 first half goals en route to a 7-2 win over Northern Potter on Saturday, September 17.
"The boys looked their best yet today against a very aggressive NoPo team," said John Shaffer. "It was 7-nil at the half and our ball movement was fun to watch. The 2nd half provided a great opportunity to rest guys and get the younger guys experience."
Wellsboro's first goal came with 30:13 remaining on the clock as senior Josiah Hill scored on a header with an assist from junior Gabe Leach. The pair connected again with 27:57 on the clock to make it 2-0, then junior Tanner Runyan scored on a header and assist from junior Noah Fitch to make it 3-0.
Hill converted a hat trick, his second of this season, with 16:33 remaining on an assist from senior Casey Hoover to make it 4-0, Wellsboro. Sophomore Brett Rudy scored on a Runyan assist with 7:27 left in the first half to make it 5-0 before Runyan made it 6-0 with 5:43 left in the first half. Wellsboro's final goal came with 1 second left as junior Devin Webster made a penalty kick.
Both of Northern Potter's goals came in the second half.
Wellsboro outshot Northern Potter 26-7 and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Hoover and sophomore Nate Redell combined 5 saves in the game.
The win pushes the Hornets above .500 for the year with a 4-3 (3-2 NTL) record. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 20 against Sayre.
