The Wellsboro Boys Basketball team won their sixth straight game as they defeated Towanda 59-30 on Thursday, January 28.
The Hornets controlled the ball the entire game and limited Towanda's shot attempts on the defensive end. Wellsboro jumped out to an 17-10 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Black Knights 18-9 in the second to take a 35-19 lead at the half. Wellsboro narrowly outscored Towanda 7-6 in the third quarter, but came alive in the fourth as they scored 17 points to claim the NTL Division 1 win.
Senior Dawson Prough was the game's leading scorer with 13 points. Sophomore Dalton Prough added 12 points, sophomore Quinn Henry finished with nine, and junior Jacob Singer had eight. Juniors Brandon Lamphier and Alden Weiner and sophomore Nic Ingerick all scored four points, freshman Brandyn Tuttle scored three points, and sophomore Collin Pietropola pitched in with two.
The JV team kept their perfect season going with a 52-31 win to improve to 19-0 on the year. Pietropola led the way with 18 points, 13 in the second half, and Tuttle finished with 11.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 13-6. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 2 as they host Athens.
