The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team picked up their seventh straight win with a 4-1 win over Lakeland on Saturday, September 24.
The Hornets struck early as sophomore Brett Rudy converted an assist from senior Josiah Hill only 1:30 into the game for an early 1-0 lead. Lakeland tied the game up with 6:13 on a goal by Lucas Snedeker, but Rudy returned the favor and assisted Hill on a goal 32 seconds before the first half ended to make it 2-1.
Wellsboro added 2 more goals in the second half to push the lead to 4-1. Hill scored with 17:22 remaining in the game on an assist from sophomore Holden Kennedy to make it 3-1, then sophomore Tanner Button assisted senior Jacob Singer with 14:20 left to make it 4-1.
Lakeland took 12 shots on the afternoon compated to the Hornets' 9 and also edged Wellsboro in corner kicks, 9-4. Senior Casey Hoover made 3 saves in goal for the win.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 7-3 (5-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, September 26 at Northeast Bradford.
