The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team survived a 30-point fourth quarter from Jersey Shore to hang on for a 81-71 win on Monday, December 19.

Wellsboro started out the game with 17 first-quarter points for a 17-11 lead after one, and outscored the Bulldogs 20-15 to lead 37-26 at the half. Wellsboro poured on 21 more points in the third and built up their lead to 58-41, and extended the lead at one point in the fourth quarter to 20 points.

Shore then made a comeback in the quarter as they forced multiple Hornet turnovers and drew multiple fouls. Wellsboro's foul shooting kept them in and won the game as they made 27-of-30 (90%) shots to hold on for the non-league win in their first of three games this week.

Junior Dalton Prough led all scorers with a game-high 22 points and senior Jacob Singer and junior Collin Pietropola finished with 12 points each. Sophomore Andrew Brelo had 9 points off the bench, sophomore Brandyn Tuttle scored 7, senior Alden Weiner and junior Nic Ingerick had 6 points each, senior Brandon Lamphier added 5 points, and sophomore Holden Kennedy rounded out the scoring with 2.

Lamphier and Prough each grabbed 7 rebounds and made 4 assists, Pietropola had 8 rebounds, Tuttle had 6, and Weiner and Singer each finished with 5. Prough blocked 2 shots and Singer, Weiner, and Lamphier finished with a block.

Wellsboro won the JV game 62-52 to improve to 3-0 on the year. Kennedy led the Hornets with 20 points, freshman Billy Lechler scored 17 (all in the second half), and Brelo finished with 12.

Wellsboro (4-1, 2-0 NTL) will be back in action tonight as they host Northeast Bradford.
