The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team knocked off previously undefeated Williamson 79-26 on the road on Thursday, December 15.
After being up 1-0 for nearly the first half of the first quarter the Hornets finally came alive to take a 17-4 lead after 8 minutes of play. Wellsboro then exploded for 24 points in the second quarter behind 7 points each from seniors Jacob Singer and Alden Weiner. At the half, the Hornets led 41-14.
Wellsboro kept up their intensity after the break and really put the game away, outscoring Williamson 27-10 for a 68-24 lead. Wellsboro then outscored Williamson 11-2 in the final frame for their third win of the year, and second straight win.
Singer led all scorers with 23 points (5-for-9 three-pointers, 4-for-5 from the foul line). Junior Dalton Prough added 10 points and 7 rebounds, Weiner scored 8, and junior Collin Pietropola and sophomore Brandyn Tuttle scored 7 points each. Sophomores Holden Kennedy and Tanner Button each scored 6 points, senior Brandon Lamphier finished with 5, sophomore Andrew Brelo scored 3, and junior Nic Ingerick and sophomore Bergen Weiner pitched in with 2 points.
Lamphier and Tuttle both grabbed 8 rebounds, Alden Weiner had 7, and Pietropola had 5. Lamphier also added 5 assists and 5 steals, Brelo finished with 5 steals, and Tuttle caused 4.
In the JV game, the Hornets remained undefeated with a 53-43 win. Kennedy led the JV team with 18 points, freshman Billy Lechler finished with 12, and Brelo pitched in with 10.
The win improves the Hornets' 3-1 (2-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on the road on Monday, December 19 at Jersey Shore.
