Hornet wrestlers fall to Athens, 64-11

The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team dropped their third straight in a 64-12 loss to Athens on Wednesday, December 21.

Senior Caleb Sinkler started the match off by pinning Andrew Watkins in 1:40 at 152 lbs. before Athens rattled off 5 straight wins. John Vough pinned sophomore Brennan Catherman at 182 lbs., Nate Bradley scored a 20-7 major decision over sophomore Hunter Brown at 195 lbs., and Dawson Leiser pinned sophomore Robert Brown in 5:25 at 225 lbs.

Senior Kaleb Smith scored the Hornets' only other win of the match by pinning Keegan Braund in 1:59 at 285 lbs. Athens won the remaining 6 matches (5 forfeits) with freshman Aidan Hauser getting disqualified against Brian Courtney at 145 lbs.

The loss drops the Hornets to 0-3 (0-3 NTL). The team will be back in action on later tonight against Sullivan County.
