Hornet wrestlers drop second straight match

The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team dropped their second straight match in a 39-18 loss to Troy on Thursday, December 15.

Sophomore Hunter Brown was pinned by Troy's Zachery Zimmerman in 2:42 at 195 lbs. to start the match, but Wellsboro would take a 12-6 lead as sophomore Robert Brown pinned Cameron Long in 2:22 at 220 lbs. and senior Kaleb Smith picked up a forfeit at 285 lbs. The lead would be short-lived however, as Troy rattled off 3 forfeits in a row.

Freshman Aidan Hauser picked up his first career Varsity win at 145 lbs. by pinning Edward Cole in 45 seconds to bring the score to 24-18.

Troy then took the next 3 matches for the win. Tyler Williams scored an 11-7 decision at 160 lbs. against senior Caleb Sinkler, William Stewart won a forfeit at 170 lbs., and Eric Stone pinned sophomore Brennan Catherman in 3:24 at 182 lbs.

The loss drops the Hornets to 0-2 (0-2 NTL). The team will return to action on Wednesday, December 21 at Athens.
