The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team dropped their second straight game with a 2-0 loss to Athens on Tuesday, September 6.

"Athens scored late in the first and early in the second and really put us behind the eight ball," said head coach John Shaffer. "Just like our first game we played much better in the last 20 but couldn't take our chances. It's a tough start to the year and it doesn't get any easier with Galeton Thursday, but we will be better off for the tough start."

Athens' Jesse Sumner scored with 9:28 remaining in the first half and Brad Cardona added the game's final goal with 33:09 left in the second half.

Athens outshot Wellsboro 14-4 and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Josiah Hill took 3 shots and sophomore Holden Kennedy attempted the other. Senior Casey Hoover made 8 saves in goal for the Hornets.

In the JV game, the Hornets lost 3-0.

The loss drops the Hornets to 0-2 (0-1 NTL). The team will be back in action against Galeton on Thursday, September 8 at Mansfield University.
