The 2016 Wellsboro Golf season came to an end on the second day of District IV play at Eagles Mere Country Club on Saturday, October 8.
Sophomores Ben Barnett and Brandyn Tuttle both qualified for the second round on Thursday, but both missed the cut (top 8 advance) to qualify for Regionals. Tuttle and Barnett both shot 87 on the day.
"We know we left a lot of strokes out there the final day, but it was a great experience that we know we can add on going into next year and years after," Tuttle said. "We both could've put better scores out today but the greens seemed harder than Thursday."
Tuttle's combined score of 171 gave him an 11th place finish and Barnett followed with a combined score of 172 for 12th place.
"We went into today feeling confident that we could go into the next round. Neither of us hit the mark of 80 that we thought we needed to make it and that cost us from going on. Now we're just looking forward to improve going into next season."
"The course played tough today. Some rain and lots of fog," said head coach Steve Macensky. "I'm very proud of both of them for making it to day 2 of Districts on their first trip."
Last year the Hornets finished 17-27 (17-25 NTL) and failed to reach Districts. This season, however, the Hornets finished 2nd in the NTL (36-6) behind Northern Tioga with 1 win and 6 second place finishes and finished 6th on day 1 of Districts.
"We had a really good year," continued Macensky. "We met a lot of our goals and are already setting some new ones for next year."
