Senior Josiah Hill scored 5 goals for the second time this season to push the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team past Northeast Bradford 6-1 on Monday, September 26.
Hill now has 26 goals this season and 79 for his career.
The Hornets struck first on a goal by junior Tanner Runyan and assisted by junior Gabe Leach with 15:27 remaining in the first half to make it 1-0. NEB's Jude Jampo (Chaz LeBarre assist) knotted it at 1-1 with 9:42 left in the first before Hill went on a 5-0 run. Hill scored with 6:37 left in the half to give Wellsboro a 2-1 lead, then scored at 35:46, 34:22, 21:14, and 16:20 to make it 6-1 and give the Hornets their 8th straight win.
Sophomore Cam Tennis, Runyan, and Leach assisted on 4 of Hill's goals. Senior Casey Hoover allowed 1 goal on 9 shot attempts.
"NEB is a good team and they really put us under pressure in the first half," said head coach John Shaffer. "In the 2nd half we were able to shake the long bus ride off and get focused. Gabe Leach was great tonight in the midfield. He's the unsung hero tonight."
Wellsboro won the JV game 2-1 on goals by sophomore Tanner Button and junior Nolan Lohr. The JV team is now 9-1-1 on the year.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 8-3 (6-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 28 at North Penn-Liberty.
